Manage discovered targets

Manage discovered targets in DAST Essentials

When applications are sent from External Attack Surface Management (EASM) to DAST Essentials, they appear as discovered targets. You can review these targets and take action. This page explains how to manage discovered targets and include them in a DAST Essentials scan.

The Discovered targets tab appears on the DAST Essentials page when a user signs in. It provides a centralized location to manage applications identified through EASM.

Prerequisites

Before you begin:

  • You must have a Veracode account with the Reviewer or Security Lead role.

If you don't see the Discovered Targets tab, verify that your user role includes the correct permissions in the Veracode Platform.

Understand the status of discovered targets

Every discovered target has a status that indicates its current state in the DAST workflow.

StatusDescription
NewThe default status for newly discovered targets that haven't been processed
MappedIndicates that the discovered target has been mapped to a DAST target for scanning
IgnoredIndicates that the discovered target has been explicitly marked as not requiring scanning

By default, discovered targets are sorted by status, with new targets at the top of the list to help you identify and prioritize them quickly.

Take action on discovered targets

You can perform the following actions on each discovered target.

Individual actions

You can use these features to manage individual discovered targets:

  1. Create and map to new target: automatically creates a quick scan DAST target, maps the discovered target to it, and makes it ready for scanning without additional configuration.

  2. Map to existing target: links the discovered target to a previously configured DAST target. Use this when you've already set up scanning for a similar or identical application.

    note

Discovered targets with URLs identical to existing DAST targets are automatically mapped.

  3. Ignore: marks the discovered target as not requiring DAST scanning. Use this for applications that don’t need security testing.

Bulk actions

To efficiently manage multiple discovered targets:

  1. Select the checkboxes next to multiple targets.
  2. Use the bulk action buttons at the top of the list:
    • Create and map to new target: creates individual DAST targets for each selected discovered target.
    • Ignore: marks all selected discovered targets as ignored.

Next steps

After processing discovered targets, continue with the DAST Essentials quickstart.
